Intel Atom CPU and fast download (decoding speed)
« on: February 17, 2009, 02:04:00 pm »
Hello fellow alt.binz users, since I am thinking of getting a new computer that doesn't consume so much power, I am thinking of getting something with an Atom CPU, something like the Asus Eee Box 206, specs of which can be seen here http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=24&l2=165&l3=0&l4=0&model=2728&modelmenu=2.

As you can see, it sports an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz. At the moment I am using an old Pentium 4 HT 3.0GHz, which handles my 20mbit connection and decoding fine. Having little experience with the Atom CPU, I was wondering if any of you had an idea of how well it handles decoding of files, PAR2 checking and repairing?

If it could handle it relatively well, it would be a welcome addition due to it's low power consumption, small footprint and of course the fact, that it plays HD material (tho I dunno if the HW-accelerated ATI card helps with MKV material?).

Thanks in advance.
