Status Code : 499
« on: June 09, 2010, 10:49:50 pm »
Hi guys & gals

I've been using Alt.Binz sucessfully for the last few weeks, and I've been very pleased with the results.

However, the last day or so I've been getting a lot of Status Code: 499's in my log, and only one of my servers is returning any data. I realise this is more likely a server or connection issue than anything else, but I have to ask...

What exactly does status code 499 mean, and what do you recommend to fix it?

There isn't a formally defined NNTP status code of 499:

http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_NNTPStatusResponsesandResponseCodes-3.htm

Although it falls in the category of "Command was correct but couldn't be performed" (4**) and sub-category "debugging output" (*9*).

So I guess this is a question to ask your NSP and then report back here to let us know.

Oh the joys of good service...

I sent customer care an e-mail querying the 499 status code and it's possible causes.

They called me back to tell me that they don't have error 499 defined, and that the
problem must be with my computer.

15 mins later, with no alterations to my computer at all, the server magically started
working again...

Sorry I couldn't find out any more... I'll see what other info I can get out of them on
Monday.
