Will Not connect with NO errors
« on: July 25, 2009, 06:01:50 pm »
Ok .. i originally thought it was my ISP or NNTP Provider but SABzb works and Grabit ..so i beleive its a AltBinz error. The problem is AltBinz just doesnt connect. Doesnt give me an error. I tried going back a couple version but get the same thing. Here is the logs  from one of my tests. All tests are exactly the same

During the testing i have also put in the WRONG password for my authentication and i still get the same error as above. Its like it can not even see my news server. But other programs do with out a problem. any ideas ????????

The proportion of Alt.Binz users who aren't able to connect to their usenet provider when they can with other clients, and with all other things being equal, is exactly 0%.  So you would be the first.

All I can suggest is to check again that you've entered your server, username, password and port details properly - look out for stray spaces, type don't copy/paste - and check firewall, etc.

Port 563, so presumably you ticked the SSL box, and this is indeed a secure server? Tried non-SSL on port 119? Also, did you try with firewall disabled?

Hecks first let me say Thanks for the replies !!!

563 is the SSL port and yeah i have checked it .. also tried doing the standard port 119 with same results. I have disabled my firewall... disabled my Antivirus. i even have taken out my PIX firewall just to make sure

I have a feeling its DNS or some kind of timeout issue where AltBinz can not connect. If i telnet to my server it takes about 2 minutes for the reply then i do commands ... I have set AltBinz Global Timeout to 120 secs but not sure it works because the logs always writes the failures 1 minute apart.

I live in the country so i am stuck with 3g internet. No real broadBand. With this connection i have some latency but not real bad and its never been a problem before.

so i dont know if this is going to be a AltBinz problem or not just know other news readers seem to work. I appreciate any feed back i get and if i get this figured out i will post a reply for the next poor guy

i appreciate the feed back

Right, that's more information than we had to begin with, then.  So it's down to whether Alt.Binz's global connection timeout applies to first connection attempts or not - Rdl should be able to help with that.
