Need help with using XPat to search post in newsgroups
« on: October 07, 2010, 03:00:37 pm »
I'm looking for a way to search for non binary posts in newsgroups without having to download headers into my newsreader.

I found alt.binz and thought I would give it a try.  I've searched on the forum for my particular issue and haven't found any similar woes.  So here goes.

As you can see from the included images, I am searching 2 newsgroups for the word wings in the subject.  I am also searching the last 99,999,999 messages (I've tried different numbers and I've also tried not selecting this).

I seems to only want to search the first group I select and not both.  I can change the order of the groups as they appear and it will only search the top group.

In the status box below, it says it does find 4/4 but it doesn't dispay any of them and I'm just wondering how to display the messages.

The other concern I have is that there are literally thousands of posts (binary and non-binary) in both those groups that DO have the word wings in it's subject, yet it doesn't find those.

I am using:
Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks for the help.

XPAT is severely awful and should just never be used (I have no idea why it's implemented in Alt.Binz).  Use Google Groups for text groups unless you're looking for text posts buried in binary groups, in which case SuperSearch would probably do a better job than most. Generally never the twain should meet as far as text & binary goes, IMHO.

Otherwise dl headers :P.
