Hello, after not using altbinz for abuot 6 months, I no longer receice search results with my 0.44.0.0 altbinz version. Even switching off the windows firewall does not help. altbinz is able to connect to my usenet provider, though. OS is Win10.0.15063, Thanks for any hint...

You've copied all files from the 0.44 archive? Check setup->connection->proxy ...
If everything is ok there - it has to be firewall.

Thanks, I re-copied everything, and now Windows Defender is suddenly issuing warning messages. I now need to enable altbin and the directoriers.
