Post by: murf on April 02, 2008, 08:32:06 pm
hi i've been using alt binz for sum time now (vers 0.25.0) and its a great program, but recently i upgraded my newsgroup (newsdemon) account to include ssl connections.

i've tried every port advised to use checked the ssl box in settings, applied and ok'ed, yet alt binz wont connect to my newsgroup.

as soon as i uncheck the ssl box in settings alt binz works fine again?

any ideas as to the cause guys? ???

I use SSL too with alt.binz (tho a newer version), and I just check "SSL" and it automatically change the port from 119 to 563. That's the standard port, but maybe Newsdemon use another port for SSL? I know that Giganews also supports SSL on port 443 now.

From Newsdemon's guide:

Here are the nntp addresses and ports available for SSL encrypted connections:

Quote
The following ports allow you to force packets through specific ports:

    * us-secure.newsdemon.com port(s): 443, 563, and 8080

All users who are SSL customers MUST use the us-secure.newsdemon.com nntp address

Are you sure you are using these settings?

Nevertheless, you should try the other ports, which are standard for SSL.  I suspect you've been given the wrong information - ports and/or server name.  Remember also to click the Apply button and disconnect/reconnect when you change your server settings.

SSL also works here. I tested it with the .25 and also the new versions.
I use port 563.
