Hide email address from public?
I have this box checked, yet my address still shows up in the member's list (and if you sort the member's list by date joined, a very large number of the latest joining members show a public email address).

I don't see a problem here.

It would be a bit stupid to hide your own email address. I can assure you other contributors don't see your email address.
Registered users/guests can't see memberlist/profiles.

Since I'v been pm-ed about this thread...

What rdl said is that only contributors got access to forum member's list. So chances of bots harvesting email adresses are pretty slim.

MOREOVER, forum members have the possibility to hide their email adress from public display in their profile (profile/edit account details/hide email adress).

Ok, I got notification about this post also. So for the person that doesn't understand this:

Guests - can't see memberlist, profiles or email address
Registered users - can't see memberlist, profiles or email address
Contributors - can see memberlist, profile and email address but only if the user allowes it.

So, you can always set 'Hide email address from public' in your profile settings.
Yes, you will be able to see your email address, but other contributors won't.
