Reading news
« on: March 31, 2008, 07:19:32 am »
Hi
I am sorry to ask this, but I simply can't get it to work. It used to work fine once.
I simply want to get a list of all the newsgroups and then from that list get the headers from a particular newsgroup. I had a method once, which I can't find / use anymore.
Any help would be very appreciated.

you can't download headers with alt.binz, but you can browse a group in most search engines

for example choose a group in newzleech (press search after you started alt.binz to get the group list)
then press browse

as an alternative u can use xpat if ur provider supports it.u refresh the newsgroups in the newsgroup tab than select ur favorites. these favs will apear in the xpat tab... searching * with wildmat-modus will get u all posts of one newsgroup at the time. if you don't clean up inbetween u can get all your fav as one big search result. by sorting by newsgroup u can now browse through all your favs at the same time and use. but expecialy big newsgroups take quite some time. so limiting to lets say the last 10000 articles might be helpful. this method is especialy usefull if u want access to smaller not (yet) indexed newsgroups or if waiting for a special post in a special group that get's indexed slowly some have delays from 15 min to 12 hours...

EDIT: Be aware if you refresh the newsgroups in the newsgroup tab all favs are gone so save them before in a doc
