RSS filters - couple questions
« on: May 08, 2009, 05:31:30 am »
I've read through this thoroughly and I think I've got everything set up properly, but just have a couple questions that weren't covered:

  • I'm in the process of setting up filters.  Are the denials or any other part case sensitive?  For example, do I need to be specific and differentiate between Xvid and xvid?
  • What buttons do I need ticked to ensure the downloads begin when the NZBs are found?  Do I need to check the 'Autopush scheduler button' and 'Autopush RSS Timer button'?
  • Anything else I should know?
Thanks.  :)

2) The Connect button needs to be active, so either enable Autopush Connect or do it manually, and uncheck Connection -> Connect while idle.

@david - Thanks for the 1,2,3.

As for contributing, I'm not certain what would/could be helpful in that listing.  I'll likely need to mess about with it for a while and discover would might be useful for my needs.  At first glance I don't see anything that I utilize.

@hecks - I figured I needed to leave the client running at all times and allow it to roam about looking for articles, but your mention of 'Autopush Connect' makes me wonder if there is a way for the client to open itself and begin looking for preset articles...

well there are a lot of bugfixes for RSS Sources so at least u will have more sources available to use...

that auto open would have to be done by an other program or script which identifies when to open alt.binz... sounds pretty complex to me. much easier would be to use search RSS-Feeds that perform a search whenever u open the program so u will not miss out on posts posted in the meantime. But most sources limit the amounts of simultaneous searches to 10 per IP so if u have a good idea where ur posts will appear using RSS Feeds that monitor specific groups can be an alternative. just make sure the number of posts included in the post is high enough so a longer downtime doesn't result in missed posts. with 250 posts binsearch allows the highest number of posts to be included in their RSS Feeds as far as i know...

Edith: well it's not only the rss feature that has made progress. Beeing able to use all searchengins (except nzbindex) via Gobal search is a treat as well but take a look for urself: https://www.altbinz.net/index.php?page=vhistory

Thanks a bunch for that david.  I'll certainly take it under consideration.  What is considered an appropriate donation?

Also, could you look at my filters and see if there are any immediate suggestions?  I like to download shows in 720 if they are typically available in that format.  However, I ran into a problem last night and am going through some trial and error to sort it out.  The first auto download that occurred was 'Sausages.S01E05.720p.HDTV.x264-CTU' and that was the group name in my download queue.  As was initially please as everything seemed to be in order.  However, the actual files listed in that group were of another release altogether - 'Sausages.S01E05.Two.Gangs.HDTV.XviD-FQM'.  How did that happen?  How can I prevent it from happening in the future?  For the shows I only want in 720 I've added a long "Denial" list to my list of Approved filters as you can see in an effort to fix it.

Sausages

Also, I was under the impression that once the list had been refreshed, groups older that the current date would not be relisted (and thus not redownloaded).  I've unticked the Timer button and chosen Refresh, but the same shows from last night that I've already watched keep appearing in the list and attempting to download...

[Edit Hecks: please try to remember that this is a public forum]

Donation is min. 15 EUR

to your filters:

you ahve a lot of spaces inside your filter list. Replace them with wilcards (*).
You don't have to use that much denials.

Using *Show*name*720p* | A is enough it won't get xvid versions

your Sausages ans especially your Wurst flter might catch up some documentarys avey now and then. better add the season there too without a wildcard like Sausages.S01*720p* | A

It seems your problems are actually form the RSS source you are using, which one is it?

that is based on user posts and users make failures ;) also sometimes they repeat stuff and you'll end up with something twice.
Using this site also doen't make realy sense because you are filtering yourself. Maybe try to use the feed from tvnzb directly, but they will have the same problems pretty sure.
If you are actually going to donate. pm me after you have contributor status and i'll give you an alternative.

Bah...  now I feel like I'm back at square one, at best.  I've never used RSS feeds in my entire life until yesterday and that site seemed pretty dumbed down.  To be honest, I don't even know where to begin now....

The key is to start small and work up to big.  Use this url:

http://www.tvnzb.com/tvnzb_new.rss

Use your browser to see what's in it right now.  Set a couple of filters to catch what's there now.  Experiment with these until you get the hang of it - once you do, it's pretty straightforward.  Then you can start building a filter list for stuff that you actually want.

Just remember that the last filter match is what counts. So if you have Sausages*720* | A, and lower down Sausages* | D, then you'll never get any sausages. ;)

i can feel u. it was just the same for me it seemed overwhelming at frist so i delayed it for quite some time, but once i started it got easier pretty quickly... just play with it try a few different sources see which works for u.after a short while u'll find ok-working settings u can let it run and have import collections autopaused. thats when it starts making fun. a bit more adapting and the margin of error will decrease to a degree where u don't need manual checking anymore... from time to time u can take a look in the RSS-Tab and sometimes u will discover u didn't even notice something u wanted has been downloaded and unrared to the correct location. With a good source and coresponding filters using RSS-Feeds is the most comfortable and effiecient way to use the usenet in my opinion...

I'm using this now as someone said it had a limit of 250, but not I'm not getting my shows either.   :-\

I was going to post my updated list along with my link there but I see Heck removed my earlier one for some reason.  Could someone PM me their full list so I can see what I'm doing wrong?
