Scheduler - I'm getting intemittent problems
« on: May 05, 2009, 11:36:45 am »
I have scheduler all set-up correctly (as far as I know), with maximum download speed set-up in 'Setup - Connection' and plenty of room available on target drive. I have scheduler set to only download at my ISPs off-peak times.  I would say it works 50% of the time and the other 50% I get strange behaviour.

Last night I left my htpc on with Alt Binz running, not connected, not paused. The scheduler button was pushed and scheduler was set to download from midnight and to stop downloading at 4pm later today. When I checked it this morning at 8am, it had both the 'connect' and 'pause' buttons pushed and the scheduler button was off. I think it has downloaded a small portion of the first file in the queue but I can't be sure as I don't remember what % it was on when previously paused.

Am I doing something wrong? I'm running Vista Ultimate 32bit.

TIA
Marc

OK, I just checked my log for last night and found this:

[05/05/2009 02:02:33] [Main] Error! Free space on destination drive is under configured value. Downloading will be paused.
[05/05/2009 02:02:33] [Main] Sheduler disabled.
[05/05/2009 02:02:33] [Main] Downloading paused.

I don't understand why this has happened - The configured value is 1000MB and I've got over 500GB free on the destination drive!

The log then went on to show this:

[05/05/2009 02:03:44] [Main] Download queue autosaved in 47ms
[05/05/2009 02:03:44] [Main] RSS tree autosaved in 0ms
[05/05/2009 02:08:44] [Main] Download queue autosaved in 47ms
[05/05/2009 02:08:44] [Main] RSS tree autosaved in 0ms
[05/05/2009 02:12:27] [T4] Connecting (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:28] [T4] Connected & Authenticated (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:30] [T3] Connecting (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:31] [T3] Connected & Authenticated (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:38] [T1] Connecting (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:39] [T1] Connected & Authenticated (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:40] [T2] Connecting (usenet)
[05/05/2009 02:12:40] [T2] Connected & Authenticated (usenet)

Every few minutes until I checked it this morning and turned it off.

What is the deal here?

TIA
Marc

First of all, check that you can actually download something to your set download folder, then at least we can isolate the problem.

Did you set a different dl folder in one or more of your RSS fllters?  Check the syntax of those?

OK, scheduler kicked in last night and continued downloading the queue without any problems this time and it was still going when I checked it this morning. I haven't made any changes to any download folders.  ???

No, I've never used the RSS feature.

I will keep an eye on things and post back.

Thanks
Marc

Scheduler has been working well since my last post....until last night!

Exactly the same problem:

[12/05/2009 02:08:31] [Main] Error! Free space on destination drive is under configured value. Downloading will be paused.
[12/05/2009 02:08:31] [Main] Sheduler disabled.
[12/05/2009 02:08:31] [Main] Downloading paused.

I have over 500GB free space on the drive!!!

It's 7 days since the last time this happened and it seems to have happened at roughly the same time - just after 2am. Could some other scheduled task be causing this.

Really appreciate any suggestions.

TIA

Maybe you've changed download destination for what you were downloading and that drive went under defined value.

No, download destination is the same as always - I never change it!

What kind of drive is ir? Could something be unmounting it for a maintenance task?  Maybe your Windows Event log wil have some info.

If the download drive is extern there is also the possibility that the connection isn't very stable and the drive gets disconnected very shortly... if thats the case alt.binz resets the dl dir automaticaly to .../Alt.binz/download...

It's the C:/ drive - the only drive in the PC (HTPC)

I've checked Windows Event Viewer and the following occured 10 secs before the problem was reported in the Alt Binz log:

Quote
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.57.1094.0)

Windows Defender is set to do an auto-update check and system scan at 02.00am. This seems the most likely culprit. I will keep an eye on things and see what the logs report next time this happens.

TIA
Marc

If it is Windows Defender, you could try disabling autoscan, changing the time, excluding the directory, etc.
