Title: Server problem
Post by: LWolfs on November 17, 2009, 06:34:09 pm
Hello,

I have two News servers with different characteristics:

Server A has retention of 2 weeks, server B has retention of 200 days.

Server A is default/primairy.

When I download a newspost OLDER than two weeks, server A fails....server B fails as well, and nothing gets downloaded, while the post is on this server

When I switch the two servers in ALT.BINZ download is OK. (server B = primary)

Guess this is an unwanted behaviour.

One is primairy, the other one is...just another server (not backup)

Add B as backup to A.

Or better yet, cancel both accounts and get yourself a proper provider: Astraweb unlimited + SSL $11/month, 455 days.

This is no server problem, but an alt.binz issue.

If this is the way to go, it's OK with me...was only trying to help and spot any 'unperfections'.

But it's not an Alt.Binz issue. You just didn't configure your Primary and Backup servers correctly, as pointed out.  Follow these steps if you still need to:

1. Double-click on Server B in Servers tab (until the server info shows)
2. Single-click on Server A
3. Add as Backup button will now be available - click it
4. B should now appear in the tree under A
5. Disable the Primary A entry

The other point is: there's really no need these days to be fiddling with servers with different retentions, unless the total cost is significantly less than $11/month.
