I am getting terribly slow downloads using Alt.Binz. Used to get 900k but now it's about 200k.
Newsbin Pro gives me 1 mbit but too many failed files.
Why has Alt.Binz slowed on me?

Why has Alt.Binz slowed on me?
1 mbit=125 KB/s
my guess would be the problem is neither altbinz nor nerwsbin but rather the usenet provider...

Sorry I stuffed the speeds up.
What I'm saying is Alt.Binz is 1/5th the speed of Newbin Pro of late. Alt.Binz used to be close to 1 mbit but now sits on about 1/5th of that speed and I have kept the same settings.
Last night I downloaded 2 files using Alt.Binz and 1 using Newsbin Pro off the same provider and that was the case. It has been that way for a while.

This is highly unlikely, as Alt.Binz will always max out your connection, all other things being equal, and this is the experience of 99.9% of users. Explain more carefully how you're working out the difference in speed. Give precise reported speeds in each client, being clear about the difference between Mbps and MB/s.
Otherwise, check your Log for errors, check number of connections, check Alt.Binz is excluded from AV and firewall interference, etc.
-
Down in Alt.binz speed at the bottom left it sits on roughly 200 kB/s. It useed to sit on 900.
In Newsbin Pro it's on 1000 kB/s
And this is off the same server.

u're sure u didn't double-click on it accidently changing the way the speed is displayed from Kb/s to KB/s?
-
Positive. It also takes forever to download something so the speed is right.

Also try different ports, SSL on/off, etc. Only you can trouble-shoot this.

Haven't maybe accidently set a download limit?
-
i have alt.binz since yesterday and today i have the same problem with download speed.
My maximum download speed is ~675 kb/s but now i have constant 35-37kb/s with alt.binz.
Yesterday i downloaded with full speed, no problems at all. Now i tried a lot of things but nothing worked:
- restarted rooter
- reboot pc
- restarted alt.binz
- deleted alt.binz (program and appdata files) and made a new one
- limited download speed and unlimited it
- tried another software (worked fine with ~650kb/s)
Don't know what to do. In the log are no error or warning lines.
I'm sorry, now all programs just can download with about 40kb/s ... so i don't have the same problem

Check the traffic management policy of your ISP, as it looks like you're being throttled.
-
I really want to donate but will that guarantee a fix in the slow speed I get using Alt.binz?
-
How would you expect such a thing to be guaranteed when neither you nor we have any idea what the root of your problem is? To repeat: all other things being equal, Alt.Binz will *always* max out your available bandwidth. This is the common experience of 99.9% of users.
-
But I get double the speed using other news readers.
-
Ham has a good point. Check if you have a d/l limit set. You may be throttling yourself.

Where do I find that setting?
-
Under Misc settings.
-
That has always been set on no limit.
-
a bit more information could be useful:
a.) what usenet provider do u use?
b.) what are the settings in settings->connections
c.) do u use the scheduler?
-
Why not just use whatever works for you.

Astraweb with 15 connections and not using schedular.

Well Newsbin Pro is faster yet I get a lot of incompletes.
Alt.Binz is slower and has always had 100% completes.
