usenet and bittorrents

i'm just wondering if someone can explain why the usenet is better than using bittorrent. it seems like most people are paying for access to a premium news server when bittorrent is free. are there good free news servers that i'm just not aware of?

usenet is a direct download from you and the server. the only people that are aware of it are you, and the server. most servers will top out your average broadband connection.

a peer-to-peer network like bittorrent means you're connected to dozens (hundreds, or even more) of other people's computers to download (and upload). your download speed will vary depending on the upload speeds of the people you're connected to.
