Title: Very slow decoding
Post by: marter22 on May 12, 2013, 11:14:35 am
Hi, downloading is very fast but Decoding is very very slow. I have tried to change the settings in Miscellaneous #2 (Priority) but this still does not work.

1. Define slow
2. Provide PC info
3. Provide anti-virus/firewall info

Take a look in log and find out exact time of single file decode with exact file size.

That's insane time. Should be couple of seconds at most. Most common problem is AV software. Have you tried making exception for altbinz/disableing it/uninstalling it?

Made changes to the firewall: windows firewall,
Uninstall Alt.Binz
Changed allow Alt.Binz as program

All 3 did not work and Decoding is still very slow

I don't see how decoding process would have anything to do with firewall.
Anti-Virus software is the one that scans temp/downloaded files.

EDIT: Btw, try seting article caching in altbinz. It could help.
Setup->Download#2->Max memory cache size to 200MB
Setup->Download#2->Remove articles... to 10min

This seems to happen when using external drives, my workaround is:

Set your alt.binz temp folder to your local drive (c:\temp)

Although the file will need to be moved after decoding, it still works much faster. I assume that it's because local disk access is faster than external usb drive, and decoding requires a lot of disk I/O operations.
