Title: Very slow download speed

Can somebody please help im new to newsgroups, ive installed alt.binz and my download speed
is at ranging from 0 to 2.4 kB/s its gonna take 30 days or so to download 5 gig, what speed
should i be expecting and how do i speed things up, i am told i should be able to download 5 gig in approx 3 hrs.

-Which altbinz version are you using?

-You should be able if ...
*Your NG provider allows such speed (using free one? move along !)
*Your net line allows such speed
*you set up enough connnections (max depends on NG provider)
*you're not downloading something else at the same time
... so far this is all i got

Which altbinz version are you using?

Hi,

my version of alt.binz is 0.25.0
My NG provider is maximunusenet (a paid provider)
my net line is with Sky so that should be ok
maximunusenet have 20 connections
im not downloading anything else at the same time
is it possible that the free alt.binz program is an old version and maybe some restrictions with it.

There are no dowloading speed restrictions in 0.25.0, or indeed restrictions of any kind. The search engines no longer work, though.

Some things to try:

* When you start downloading, open the connections panel on the queue tab (hit F9) and see whether all 20 of your threads are connecting OK, and at what speeds. Actually, start with a small number of threads (5-10).
* Check Log tab for error messages.
* Check whether your ISP throttles usenet traffic at peak times or all times. Changing the usenet server port you connect to, or connecting via SSL, may help with this.
* Temporarily disable firewall & antivirus.

I have a somewhat similiar problem. When i started using alt.binz i got a dl rate of 15mb/sec, really nice. Used it for about 1 month, then i it suddenly went down 1mb dl. i didnt do any changes to my xp, firewall, or altbinz.
am i virus fried, or what happened?
i have a 100 mb isp so it should be burning down my downloads.

appreciate some help on this one

15 MB/sec? What service do you have? I'd love that.
