Title: Windows 7 problems - or not?
Post by: rogerhogle on November 27, 2009, 02:14:53 am
 ???
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 .  I had version 0.25 and it worked 5 or 6 times and stopped working.  I donated and upgraded to 0.31.2.  It then worked 3 or 4 times and stopped working.  What happens is i execute the program and it gives the hourglass for a few seconds and goes away.  Any idea what might be the problem?

 ???

It then worked 3 or 4 times and [....] stopped working.

Since other users have been using Alt.Binz without probs under Windows 7 (and others haven't ;)), it would help if you could give some info about anything that happened between "3 or 4 times" and "stopped working".  Don't worry about the Vista thing, it just means it won't save user info to Program Files.

Unfortunately, there isn't much to say.  It worked, i downloaded some files, and the next time i tried to use it, it didn't work.  I just gives me an hourglass (or the circle trhing in Win7) and then it goes away.  I'm not sure it's a Windows 7 thing.  Maybe a memory issue since Windows 7 is more demanding?

Start fresh. Delete all config files from both altbinz root directory and/or users/user/appdata/local/altbinz
Copy exe file outside program files filder.

Thanks for the reply.  i wiped it completely clean and stareted over and it doesn't work.  I guess I am going to have to go with GrabIt and I'm not happy about that.

Where is altbinz located exactly? Is UAC enabled or not? Is there anything else in altbinz dir?

the old version was C:/program fles (x86)/Altbinz/.   The new one is just the executable on the desktop.

I don't know what UAC is.

FYI, I installed Grabit and used it 2 times.  It then proceeded to do exactly the same thing, so at this point i am thinking it might be my antivirus blocking them!?!?  CA Antivirus can be overbearing.

Any help would still be cool.

Delete all setting once again (from users/user... dir) Then put altbinz.exe in c:\altbinz and try again.

I uninstalled my CA Antivirus program and it did the trick.  Now i just have to figure out how to get my antivirus back and disable that feature.
