winrar x64
« on: April 06, 2010, 04:20:43 pm »
I have recently upgraded my win machine to x64 software mostly...and alt.binz does not know the location of winrar now. (Program Files instead of Program Files x86, where it worked fine) How do I tell alt.binz where to locate the winrar.exe?

alt.binz 0.31.5
win7 x64
everything is being saved to a network share on a lucid 10.04 beta workstation (my p2p data machine). all permissions are appropriate can save nzb files there and files to download to it fine, just winrar no longer works since installing the x64 version.

thanks!

edit: pls disregard, I copied the files to the program files x86 folder, workaround that made sense. lol

Alt.Binz does not in any case make use of winrar.exe.

erm.....what does the unrar portion in the options use in windows in that case? unrar.exe like linux? I mean, the unrar function only stopped functioning when I installed the x64 version of winrar...and removed the x86 version. When I copied the program files over to the old winrar install location, it functioned again.

After a complete search of my windows system for unrar.exe the only instances were the winrar program locations. Unless altbinz has a hidden location of unrar free or something.....correct me if I'm wrong.

Probably coincidence with a different problem/cause? I don't even have winrar installed, neither did I in Linux/Wine. And it still works.

Cannot try over here but check the AltBinz misc folder for a rar executable. If such a file is not present, then it's built in.

winrar is a windows compatible program, cannot work in linux, unless under wine(which I've done and know it works. It doesn't concern me what is being used for altbinz to do the unraring, its just the unrar option ceased to function the 'moment' i installed the x64 version and removed the x86 version. how could that be coincidence. I'm not here for a pissing match, I just found it odd. thats all. it functions just fine now and things are well.

BTW, stuff is leeching pretty much 24/7, and this has never happened, so i find it completely incorrect that it was just 'coincidence'. lol really the only way hellanzb can unrar anything under linux is ONLY after unrar free or unrar(the licensed version) has been compiled. I'm not a noob and its not my first day, but we all learn new things everyday and im just interested in wtf. lol

in addition, if you had neither winrar nor unrar installed, i find it completely impossible for it to be able to unrar anything, period. if the developer would care to correct me id be grateful. The only way that it is possible for altbinz to unrar files 'on its own independently, would be for unrar free to be built in to the program, which would make sense, but it would have to be a unix compiled program in that case.

you cannot even use alt.binz in linux, unless it's under wine. in which case, what are you even using linux for? if using linux the only program to use is hellanzb. IMHO. of course :p

edit: oop i am wrong, i did find unrar.dll in the 'misc' folder. hrm, wonder why it stopped unraring with the option to unrar enabled. weird.
I think I shall put altbinz to execute in xp compatibility mode at this point.

Not here for a pissing match either. :)

The answer probably is "funny but whatever, it works now". Dont you agree?

(btw I did use Ubuntu for a while. No dedicated GUI based usenet client I liked, so I used AltBinz in Wine.)

i never even tried a gui based nzb client in nix. hellanzb was some good shit tho, too bad its no longer developed. i knew there had to be some sort of unrar.* file doin something though, otherwise it would be impossible for unrar to work, lol my search was on unrar.exe which excluded that dll in the misc folder, lol my bad. im now just using my nix for p2p storage, but altbinz leeches from windows it there via mapped net drive :D (thats where my TB's of mass storage are). lol
