I would like altbinz to delete the empty folder after extracting to another directory.
thanks
-
Setup->Unrar->Delete empty folder
-
yes, i know about that option, but it does not delete the empty folders.
-
Really? What does it do then?
I just tested that option and it does what it should do, delete EMPTY folder after unrar/delete/move procedure.
-
it does not delete my empty folders. It leaves the empty folders in the download directory.
btw, these downloads get grabbed using the rss filter.
-
Same thing happens to me. Has happened for a while never really got this feature to work.
Empty folder have all files deleted and still there
-
Works perfectly fine here. Can you enable view hidden files in those folders to see if something's still in there (like Thumbs.db).
-
I'll check on my next download, already manually deleted all the empty folders.
-
There are only 2 things I could think of:
1. I execute script involved?
2. AV locking out directory. What AV are you using?
-
I use no scripts except the filter on my rss feed, and on that specific computer, microsoft security essentials is die AV. The feature never worked since I can remember, have been using AltBinz for years.
-
I've been using for years as well
XP, Vista, and Windows 7
Never worked
-
downloaded 2 shows using the rss filter and extracted to a different folder. Went into folder options, enabled show hidden files and unchecked the hide protected windows files- folder is completely empty.
-
Well, if you've tried with AV disabled and/or Alt.Binz folders excluded from your AV, then all that can be said at this point is that it works 100% for others and always has done, so you need to dig deeper into what's happening on your system.
You could try installing Process Monitor to see which process has any open handles to the folder that might be preventing Alt.Binz from deleting it.
And failing any resolution of this mystery, you can always try the scripted method:

-
I've excluded the whole drive from my anti-virus. I've also disabled the "monitor automatically' in the quickpar options to see if that is locking the folder.

Bingo. Note that there's no need to use QuickPar with Alt.Binz in this way (or at all).
-
Just found something interesting.
I watched the folder when something was downloading and the folder did delete after unraring.
but a few seconds later the program downloaded the rest of the misc files and the folder showed up again and then deleted everything again leaving the folder.
Is there a setting that I'm missing in the program.
Thanks for the help

It didn't work. Nothing is interfering with altbinz, in fact, after uninstalling quickpar, it stopped extracting my downloads

Well, do you have Alt.Binz set up for par2 checking & unraring? This would go a lot quicker if you could give full details of your setup. To repeat: Alt.Binz has no need for and does not use QuickPar.
This would also go a lot quicker if you could test your setup immediately with a test NZB as you make changes. No need for this to last another 4 days ...

Im sorry, I dont have very fast internet. I will test it now again.
this is my setup for my download box:
windows xp sp3
pentium 4
1gb ram
security essentials as anti virus
in altbinz the unrar options are:
autounrar checked
overwrite existing files
at the delete after unraring- *.sfv *.md5 *.srr Thumbs.db
delete archives checked
delete empty folder checked
at nzb 2 options, at the import as paused
sample par 2 file is checked
sample files
nzb files
nfo files
srr files
at par2 options
par2 checking is enabled
delete par2 files if ok
par2 repairing- cleanup after par2 repair checked
-
As you're testing, please check both the PAR2 tab and the Log (detailed) for any errors.
-
finished downloading a 100mb file, did not unrar. the par2 tab shows no errors and the log tab only displays my connection hostory.
-
So is there anything on your PAR2 tab? What you should see is an entry for the small par2 file, expand it to see which blocks have been verified and which have failed.
Note that if no par2 is downloaded to the same dir as the archive - either because there are none in the collection, or all are paused - then neither par2 checking nor unraring are possible.
-
ok, I've uninstalled altbinz, installed it again, removed everything from that pc- its literately just altbinz and winrar on that pc, installed altbinz with the installer, updated to the latest version, added my rss filter, checked all the settings, file association, and my rss feed grabbed the good wife, which downloaded 100%, par 2 tab shows green, all good, the log again just shows info on my connection to the news server. It does show a status error code 0, but that's it. It did not unrar or anything.
-
Do you have unrar.dll located in your misc folder?
Do you have rar icon in "unrar" column in par2 tab next to that par2 set?
Have you tried manual unrar? (right click on par2 set)
-
Hi Rdl,
yes, i have a unrar.dll file in that misc folder. there is no unrar icon under the corresponding tab, and manual unrar works fine.
-
Is there rar icon under unrar column in queue tab?
Are you sure you have auto unrar checked? :)
-
Yes, there is a rar icon in the que, and im 110% sure its checked! :D
-
I got it to unrar again by downloading and replacing the dll with this one http://www.rarlab.com/rar/UnRARDLL.exe but it still leaves the empty folder after unraring!
-
That doesn't make any sense. unrar.dll is restore EVERY time altbinz is restarted.
-
as usual I am late to the party but since I donated this has rarely worked for me. the free version still extracts and deletes the empty folders, the newer versions haven't deleted empty folders or has deleted some but not all..
I have it set to delete or move the non standard files associated with the nzb archives and the folders are indeed empty.
I am not complaining about it, not a huge deal to me but if there's a bug I would gladly give input where i can to help fix it.
cheers, have a great day all.
-
Yea, still doesn't work for me either.
-
this script seems to do the trick..
https://www.altbinz.net/forum/help-5/alt-binz-scripts-the-code!/msg14262/#msg1426
didnt use it correctly the first time.
Is it not possible to implement this script into altbinz and enable it with a check box or something?
-
It's already implemented. Why it doesn't work for you OOB, we're no closer to understanding.
-
I think I'll fix for the next version debug log. I would really like to know what is happening.

This thread is a bit old, but I'm having the issue of empty folders not being removed as well. Has the cause been found yet and will it be solved? I can run some tests as well if needed.....

Hmm... somehow it seems to be working fine now. Empty folders are deleted nicely. Don't know what has changed. I'll wait and see. If the problem returns I will let you guys know. Will try to find some more details in that case too...
-
hello, I also would like to say is not deleting empty folder nor is deleting par files or nzb etc... it does delete archive files fine. I have it setup downloads to download folder than extract it to another folder on my desktop .
I have read everything on this post still nothing.
-
Hey,
My delete empty folders never worked 100%- was hit and miss most of the time.
What did work for me, was the following:
I downloaded the new unrar.dll http://www.rarlab.com/rar/UnRARDLL.exe (http://www.rarlab.com/rar/UnRARDLL.exe)
made this awfull script to wait until altbinz starts and copy over the new unrar.dll:
cd\Program Files\AltBinz\
START altbinz.exe
PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 13000 >NUL
copy /Y "c:\altbinz\unrar.dll" "C:\Documents and Settings\Downloads\Local Settings\Application Data\Alt.Binz\misc\"
I use davidq666's simple-clean-up.bat, but added one line extra to give my slow pc a chance to extract and move everything over.
PING 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 5000 >NUL
del %1\*.nfo
del %1\*.jpg
del %1\*.png
del %1\*.sfv
del %1\*.srr
rd %1
Now my downloads extract 100% and the empty folders get deleted. Tested it with 5 different downloads.
I think adding the delay in the simple clean up script is whats doing the trick. The pc I use to download is quite old... a pentium 4, so it gives it a bit extra time to do whatever.
