Altbinz as a service
« on: September 24, 2009, 10:49:36 am »
I don't know how many others use AltBinz in the same way I do, but essentially it's unattended for me.  It checks the RSS for NZBs, gets them, decodes them, places them on the network and cleans up after itself.  I only hit the UI to see if I can see why something might not have come through. The only problem I have is that I have to leave a user logged in to achieve this - The server has it runing on console which ideally wouldn't have anyone logged in most of the time.

And to my polite request, can it be written as a service rather than a user app?  UI features could be kept as a user app, but the automated features moved into a service.

I know I'm not supposed to comment on how easy this would be, but...  Well, clearly it wouldn't be.  But I think it'd be worthwhile!

Some program like Firedaemon (www.firedaemon.com) can convert a .exe into service.
This might be handy for you to know...
