IDEA: unrar folder determined by keyword in nzb name
« on: February 17, 2010, 09:57:36 pm »
It would be cool if you could make a list of key words that would determine what folder is extracted to.

For example, a nzb with keyword "lost" would be always be extracted to folder c:\lost
Anything not in the custom list extracts to default folder.

Personally I'd agree that such automation features would be very welcome, but only if they're part of a bigger rethink of how these things might work more generally, so features aren't just added piecemeal, making the overall experience more fragmented.

There have been many variations already requested in the forum, from user-definable categories to smart filters, more dropdowns & dialogs, etc., but i'd actually like to see this whole aspect of the Alt.Binz experience given a big overhaul, to really integrate all of the different functions, from selecting download/unrar dirs, to post-processing, file/folder sorting, logging and reporting, viewing friendly download histories and more comprehensive stats, integrating with stuff like xbmc, a simple (general) API for remote access, queue control, notifications, etc.

Alt.Binz is a workhorse when it comes to raw power and just getting it all done as efficiently as possible, but is perhaps less good on these 'soft' features that apps like SABnznd+, for instance, are better at doing.  Think, for example, of an Alt.Binz config that could be optimized for delivering a usenet TV/DVR experience, how all of the different components might fit together, and compare that with an apps config, or a music config, etc ...
