Priority downloading for 'peak' periods
« on: August 19, 2011, 10:28:58 am »
Hi - had a search but can't find any answers.

My ISP has capped my D/L in peak hours (0800 - 2359) and anything downloaded in that time counts towards my allowance.  However, anything downloaded between 0000-0759 doesn't count towards this cap.

As my monthly limit is 60Gb, I have set the schedule to only D/L in the off-peak times - this allows me to queue NZB during the day and then they start at midnight.  However, there are times when I want to D/L immediately and at the minute, I have to manually change the D/L limit & monitor the download so I change everything back afterwards.

Can alt.binz have an option (linked to schedule) that would allow a download to over-rule the schedule settings e.g. normal NZB import that starts at 0000 has a priority of 3 but I can add a 'special download with priority 1 that downloads immediately. This could be done in the download queue screen by giving an option (right click on subject) to download immediately.

Thanks

*huh*?

You can just prevent the Scheduler from being active, by pressing the big "Scheduler" button ( right next to the big Shutdown button ). This disables the "Scheduler", and you do not need to change any setting on the time. And when you are finished with your download, just reactive the "Scheduler" by pressing the button again.

This solves your problem, and is already build in to alt.binz...

I know that I can do that but it still means that I have to monitor what's happening and put the settings back when the required download is finished. What I'm talking about is an option to ignore the schedule completely for a particular download.

So in other words, you want to have the schedule active, but some way to right click on a download and say "force start", or configure it to be "forced" from the RSS feed.
I too would like this feature. Bittorrent programs such as Azureus and uTorrent support this feature for the same reason.

Some TV Shows you just MUST HAVE as soon as they're released, whereas the majority can wait until the scheduled times (usually overnight) and be watched a day later.

I do remember a request like this coming up before, though I think it was related to the RSS feeds, giving alternatives to simply "A" or "D" as actions. Can't remember where it is though...

I found the link:
https://www.altbinz.net/forum/closed-requests/rss-the-next-step/

The request asked for a "force", but it was rejected, and some of the other stuff was added instead.

The RSS pause / force is similar and may require a lot of effort to achieve. I was hoping that it would be a fairly easy task to add functionality to;
  • right click on download
  • download now (i.e. ignoring schedule / speed restrictions
