QoS ?

My request is so obvious that it must be impossible to code 

Problem : AltBinz is a bandwitch sucker (and we love it)

Now there are options to pause/unpause or to reduce bandwitch to XX%
I mean, for a ponctual http download or a heavy surf on p0rn sites (don't laugh, i know you go there too  )

Maybe if altbinz automatically used only available bandwitch left by other proggies some of us wouldn't need to play with these options ?
IIRC this is called Quality of Service.

This is something that high end routers do, i'm not sure it's possible to code in a program

If you take a look at the properties of your LAN connection you see that there is a QoS Packet Scheduler running, windows-based. I guess the easiest way to realize that idea is taking advantage of the already present QoS which windows has built-in.

I think this is too much to ask for Alt.Binz to do itself. I see two different solutions for you:

1.) Assuming you run Windows, get Cfos.speed, an alternative network-driver, where you can assign levels to your programs. In my WinXP-days, it was one of my favourite programs, allowing me to leech and surf without many lags.

2.) Get a decent router, one that allows for QoS. Linksys wrt54gl flashed with tomato would do. You can set the IP of your usenet-provider and make it low priority, and everything you need high. Well, just setting www high should help a lot.

WOW... OSI 7 layer model man look it up. It really cant be done or at least efficiently. You really need a nic card capable of QOS or a router...

I'd go with option 2. Most decent routers provide QoS functions. That way if you have multiple computers (either yours or other peoples) on the same network the same rules will apply to everyone. Also it means one less thing running on your system.

It doesn't make sense for Alt.Binz to manage QoS for the whole computer.
