Unable to import from password protected RAR
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:23:19 am »
Hi - using v0.27.0

I use the RAR import function and it works very well.  However, if you try with a password protected RAR (as downloaded from some forums) then the import doesn't work.  I would expect that it would prompt for password then continue but this doesn't happen - it just fails to import.

Please can this be amended in future release.

Thanks

there is already a posibility to enter the password for pw protected rars in the download queue tab right click menue... but remembering you of entering the pw would then be request.

He is not talking about the rars of his "final" download but a rar file which contains the NZB. (he's talking about importing rars)

That's correct - if I have a password protected RAR that contains the NZB, I'm unable to open that from withion AltBinz.

lol this post only made me think of one thing: damn people are getting lazy... just extract the damn rar manually. I never really understood why nzb import support from within rar/zip files should be possible but this really goes to far imo.
It's up to Rdl to decide of course but I'd say this isn't worth the trouble. I don't believe a lot of users would actually be using this...

No offense to the original poster of course ;)

No offense taken.  ;D

It's not a big thing but may enhance the features of the product.  Not everyone uses all the features anyway but this is one that I do use and regularily import from RAR files so to me, would be beneficial.

If it's an easy fix, then why wouldn't be added into a future release - if it's difficult, it won't be added.

Makes me wonder why sites put NZB files in archive-files. Will it get smaller? NZB files aren't that big (with the speeds nowadays). Or may it be a problem with offering illegal stuff?

Not for size reduction - many forums that provide NZB links require registration.  One of the ways of doing this is put the NZB into a RAR and to password protect the RAR and only let members see the PWD.  Slightly annoying sometimes but no less so that downloading a movie marked as retail only to find it's a screener.  At least going through a forum, there is more chance of getting a decent rip and not wasting your time / bandwidth.
