Preview NZB
« on: December 02, 2007, 06:14:33 pm »
I love the Nzbplay and use it quite often, it is fantastic if youn know wich nzb you want to download and to watch it before its finished downloading. But sometimes u just want to test wich one is the best qualitywise, therefore it would be very handy to have n nzb preview button in a rightclick menue for the searchengines wich does somthing like:

1. Import NZB as first
2. sorted the right way
3. All rars paused
4. only the first rar unpaused(and maybe the par2 if it needs to)

and maybe if thats possible stores these in some kind of temp folder so that, in case you delete the nzb from the queue you don't have to erase the new folder that was created

I would like to request a rar preview feature. Please note: I don't mean video preview, but an option to download just enough of a file (one archive file eg. the .r00 file) so that the contents of the rar file can be displayed and then have a box to either continue the download or cancel it.

Sometimes I download what looks like a legitimate file (eg matches vcdq or nforce name etc) but within the rar itself is a wmv (for example) rather than the expected avi (for example).

Currently I go to the download directory and open the first downloaded rar file and if the filename is unexpected I cancel the download. I thought this might be a useful feature to have inbuilt. It doesn't need any logic (eg matching the file extension) - if it could just show me the archive contents and let me choose whether or not to continue this would be great.

Hope my explanation makes sense. I realise it may not be worthwhile and/or may not be viable. Thanks for your time.

Edith: Found an old request of mine that is almost identical so i merged the topics

the nzbplay basicly does this execpt for stopping after the first rar and asking...

right now if u want an autostop after the first rar the easiest way would be splitting the collecton into one with only the first rar and the par2 file and one with the rest. this way u could check the contents without going through winrar and depending on the result unpause or delete the main collection...

other than that i am all for the option u want it would make previewing more efficient i think.

Edit: Merged it with an older request of mine heading the same direction

+1 on that, altough it just works if there is one big file because if there are more files in the splitted archive they often don't show in the first rar (assuming the first rar is the one to preview)

Thanks for moving my post David, makes sense to keep similar requests in one place.

a feature like this would be awesome. maybe something like a "Preview with NZBPlayer" action button or something like that. It would put BinTube (a $40 product, which supports SSL) to shame, since you cannot use SSL with the current version of NZBPlayer, thatworks just as well as BinTube, but is free. It will also stop the end user from going thru the extra step of opening NBZ Player (if they're using SSL) and selecting the video they want to watch.

def a +1

i was actualy not refering to nzbplayer but to nzbplay https://www.altbinz.net/wiki/NZB_Play. when using alt.binz why use a second app?
