Been using this nice progie for 5 days now and i realy like it. It already replaced grabit even tho ther are still some little issues. rld stated in IRC it can only get better. here I will copy and paste a note i made during using it with several ideas. I hope I have been clear if not please tell me so i can explain better what i mean.
ideas for alt.binz
1) some kind of notification when clicking (importing) an nzb file maybe a popup or activating the window [maybe as option]
2)some way to prevent/verify if you want to download a file twice
sometimes i accidently clicked the same nzb twice and got all files double ( wich is ofcoarse stupid but hee i'm just human ;-) ) of coarse ther might be a reason why you want to download a files/nzb again. but maybe check against articles already in the dowload qeue ther is usualy no reason to qeue someting twice
- pausing a group reflected in single files that are part of that group (makes it more clear what is paused exactly)
so al files in the group get the paused icon
- keep files that fail to download in the dowload que with aN error symbol ( a red cross would do fine) and show reason of failure in the status row e.g.article not found.
( sometimes when using grabit for example articles get errors even after a couple of retries but when i restart them manualy they often are found again) reason for the initial errors could be server related or maybe another filesharing program was interfering
[when experimenting with 2 primaryserver setup a lot of files got dowlnoaded at 0kb instead of giving a file not found error]
- make it possible for 2 primary servers to work together so for example if the server from your isp doesnt have the file it will atomatically leave it for the other primary server to try
this is different from using a backup server because now you can add the extra connections provided by the extra primary
e.g. supose i have 20mbit line. My isp server gives me 5 mbit +4 connections and my payserver provides me 10 mbit +4 connections but the isp server has a much lower retention and less newsgroups then my payserver. so when all file are present on both servers both servers can use there 4for a total of 8 connections for 15mbit. but in the current situation if 1 server doesnt find the file it will save it as an 0kb file and your download gets "corupted"
- ad an unlimited parameter for download speed and set it at default
some programs use 0 as unlimited cause if you dint want to dowload you could pause or shutdown the program
- a button to clear sucsesfully completed and unpacked downloads in par2 tab
